November came in soft before it came in loud. Chiké set the tone on "Love Is Important (Running)," opening in Igbo with "afuru m gi n'anya" and then promising to climb mountains, cross oceans and keep the lions away just to stay close, crediting the woman who turned, in his own words, a bad man into a lover man. The singer who first won hearts as a runner up on The Voice Nigeria still knows how to make devotion sound like a decision rather than a feeling.

Chike
DXTINY kept that warmth going on "Mama" with Kunmie, a flirtatious little record he wrote while actually seeing someone, with Kunmie jumping on after catching the Instagram teaser. South Africa's Paxton took the harder road on "Better," sitting in the exhaustion of arguing over small things and still landing on love as something imperfect but worth repairing, the kind of honesty you expect from the youngest woman ever to win Idols South Africa. Lucky Yay folded all of that feeling into his debut EP "I Am Lucky Yay," a six song look back at memory and loyalty where "Good Ole Days" remembers when fifty naira could still buy a plate of beans.

Wendy Shay
From Accra, Wendy Shay pulled in Sarkodie for "This & That," a grown conversation about mixed signals and whether a person is mature enough to own their actions, Wendy setting the boundary while Sarkodie answers in Twi and street wisdom. Over in the underground, the Lagos rapper, model and internet favourite MaeVrse carried pure swagger on "Take Me 2 ATL," building the whole thing around the mantra take me 2 Atlanta and flexing three thousand five hundred dollars spent on bands for her bandana.

LAIME, "44 Girls" with Monochrome, DJ Rommie and PsychoYP
The hustle had its anthems too. Berri Tiga, the voice behind the 2022 street classic "Machala," refused to slow down on "Motion," locked in on his vision with zero competition in sight. Boy Muller linked up with Young Jonn for "Outside," an uptempo escape from the week's pressure that the pair sum up plainly: "Outside is the feeling you get on a Friday when you have been waiting all week." LAIME took it to the club on "44 Girls," a fast paced cut off his debut EP "21" that pulls in Monochrome, DJ Rommie and PsychoYP for crew energy and lets the hustle and the enjoyment sit side by side. Umu Obiligbo reached for something older on their eight song album "Legendary," a project thick with Igbo proverbs that closes on "Trust" with a line to live by, "I no dey trust person, I trust in God, and I trust myself."

We Are Nubia
Out of Nairobi, the duo We Are Nubia turned gratitude into a celebration on "Alhamdullilah," Maggie Atieno and Gloria Munga stacking close harmonies over the Swahili line "mama natabasam," a mother's smile held up for everyone who believed early and kept moving through the hard seasons.
Gospel carried us out. Lilian Nneji gathered sixteen songs of praise on "Highly Favoured," moving from the high energy of "I'm Active" to the quiet worship of "Elohim," testimony music for anyone trying to stay grateful through a long season.
That is the week. If you make music or run a label and you have something new, send it to digitalescapeafrica@gmail.com and let us put it in front of the people.
